iOS 16 Drops Support for iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, Original iPhone SE and More

Apple's newly announced iOS 16 operating system is compatible with many of the iPhones that are able to run iOS 15, but it does drop support for some older devices, including the iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, the ‌iPhone‌ 6s Plus, the iPod touch, and the ‌iPhone‌ 7 and ‌iPhone‌ 7 Plus.

According to Apple, iOS 16 will be available only on the ‌iPhone‌ 8 and later, with a full compatibility list below:

  • ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro
  • ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro Max
  • ‌iPhone‌ 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • ‌iPhone‌ 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • ‌iPhone‌ 11
  • ‌iPhone‌ 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • ‌iPhone‌ XS
  • ‌iPhone‌ XS Max
  • ‌iPhone‌ XR
  • ‌iPhone‌ X
  • ‌iPhone‌ 8
  • ‌iPhone‌ 8 Plus
  • ‌iPhone SE‌ (2nd generation or later)

As for iPadOS 16, it is compatible with the following iPads:

iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are available to developers starting today, with Apple set to provide a public beta later this summer.

Expected the SE and 6S to be dropped but the 7 took me by surprise! I assume this means the iPod Touch and iPads with A10 chips will be dropped too?
